well, time for me to start over again on a new blog but blogging bout my uni life in penang after came back from SALEM,INDIA..
Before further blogging, I would like those who read help me to correct my language k,don't hesitate and leave a comment because this is the main purpose I choose to write it in english. Time fly, after 2years in India, I came back for good. A brand new uni life for my clinical year is waiting for me. I wouldn't say that everything is perfect here compare to Salem but is BETTER.
There are lots of things that I can't expect from Salem I can get it here, but those I had in Salem, I couldn't find it here. So this is a new starting point for me again.
This is my second week of my 3rd year, nothing much happened but I've been arranged to attend the posting in OS ( oral maxillofacial surgery). Hmmmm..... is my FUTURE post grad studies (well this is just what I planned but.... still it might change..)...
During the first day of clinical posting, my lecturer introduced himself to 4 of us then told us that we have an assignment to do for this 2 weeks posting.. which is INFECTION CONTROL...
*ok let me explain why only 4 of us..
there are 32 students in my batch. and there are 8posting groups (subdivision of dentistry), so one group 4 students. I'm lucky enough that all of the 4 are girls " I'm not sexiest k, just that 4 of us can chat alot!! " *
ok what is INFECTION CONTROL? don't know...so our duty is to be in the library for this 2weeks sit there and study bout it and write the main point down as an assignment. *wow, nothing else othe than this??* *yup! nothing else.. so is a BORING posting for me...*
I finish up my assingment in a week and the following week which is this week.............------------ I'm just like this * -.- * .....
In between of this posting we need to go up to the clinic (they call it as cubicle which has dental chairs) to get attendance. There are few times we saw some extraction cases but without any MOS (minor oral surgery). Extraction doesn't look hard at all is the dentist can get the firm grab and of course the patient's tooth is really 'obedient ' to follow your force and pull it out...
BUT.... patient usually don't know how the procedure will be... HAHA not only them..ME TOO! till the first time I know it well is during my helping experience in charity clinic of TZU CHI in PUDU...
as I concern, is just needle with LA (local anaesthetic) and a PLIER....
ahahha is not like this at all!
ok, Let me talk bout my experience in the PUDU clinic which I really learn alot from the dentists there. *hehe in my uni clinic, priority to the senior to touch the patient and to those following procedure, so basically 3rd year like us , we will do nothing there other than observe.* SO, during my holiday after 2nd year ended, I choose to serve as a voluteer in th clinic and the sisters there are so kind, they let me easily approach the dentist who work on that shift and learn some knowledge from them.. That was a good experience throughout my holiday after 3weeks served in the clinic. I know bout the technique and some little tactic form their experience which they shared. I even get to learn how to precribe drugs when I help in the full day clinic *not the dental but the normal clinic.* Doctors are nice to me and teach me plenty of stuff. Being a helper is so much fun... I can't imagine when I can really do by my own in FUTURE..
Procedure of an extraction?? well...briefly touch on...
After checking and confirming the tooth that have to be extracted, LA is given, *YES there goes the needle and syringe*..then will wait proximity around 3mins then dentist will decide is the right time to extract with the forceps or not..*see, is not a plier.. is a FORCEP* sometimes dentist need an elevator too.. *not the one you step on,but a hand instrument which have different shape and function to elevate the teeth out so that can be extracted easily...* Extraction will only start when there's no sensitivity on patient's area of mouth which has been injected with LA. We always think is easy to extract a tooth, but it never turns to be an EASY thing when it breaks down.Sometimes the root of tooth might stuck in the socket and the crown has been taken out.. Sometimes the bulging of the root make dentist has some difficulties to extract it out well in shape.
Sometime patient bleed non stop will cause more complication too...
The clinic I went have patient who mostly came from myanmar, they are usually UNHCR people so they get the oppuntunity to get this service for free. There are many cases I've seen and I will share in futher posting. BUT something makes me feel so different TODAY.
There is a lady came to our uni clinic today and she need an extraction on her 24 (left side first premolar-- count from the midline of your central tooth ,tooth no.4 on left). She looked calm and smile sweetly. BUT, when my senior start inject the LA into her bucal side (the outer gum of the tooth, exact location will be explain in detail next time), her leg start move and like lift up. This remind me of the kid in the charity clinic, they are so brave and only little of them who cry. WOW,HOW CAN THEY STAND THE PAIN?
Narr she won't feel pain at all due to the anaestetic, just the tense make her uneasy... Due to her condition and dramatic shouting thill the whole clinic can hear, our lecturer decided to extract for her. When the forcep nicely places her tooth, while extracting ,she screamed... AHHHHHHHHHHHHH......... tears roll down... CRAGH! CRACK on ROOT!!! oops!!! root remain in the socket...now condition become worse... have to use some hand instrument to get the root out... She cried like a baby......
Hmm....scared of dentist is most of the people's phobia..... I guess people should be brave next time...A myanmar kid can stand it why not an adult... ahahaha..maybe blood is the main factor....
ok....will continue later..=)
Give me the name of your senior.
